Keiron Northcott, Commercial Director of Northcott Beaton, said "my fellow Director Nick Beaton and I need to lose some weight and get fit, so we thought what better way than to do something to support the Chiefs Charity. We wanted something that we would have to work hard and train for, but at the same time being realistic, hence the 20 mile walk".
The walk is being organised in conjunction with well known local ex marine Paul Mattin who walked to the South Pole and back, through his new Company Wilderness Solutions. Paul said '20 miles is a reasonable distance that you have to prepare for so I will be helping in the preparation and the running of the event on the day, plus it's a great opportunity to work with these guys to support The Exeter Foundation. In the beginning it was just something that Nick and Keiron were going to do themselves but when they mentioned it to others a lot of people wanted to take part, so for this year there will be around 12 teams of 3 and include local companies Aviva, South West Communications, Frobishers, Lloyds TSB, FT Group, CAP Ceilings and Partitions, Thomson Jenner and Woodbury Park
Nick Beaton said ‘it's been great that so many people want to take part so we think that we may make it an annual event and develop it further over the years'.
The Exeter Foundation was set up in 2010 to promote responsibility for the future prosperity of Exeter, a vehicle to encompass fundraising for local charities by various means. Keiron who is also a trustee of the Charity said ‘The Exeter Foundation was initially set up to formalise the charitable collections at the Exeter Chief's Rugby ground on game days, however is growing rapidly into a far larger entity. The hope for The Foundation is that it will grow and grow and become a significant vehicle for raising funds for all manner of local charities in the future'.
